infidelity

Infidelity and particularly when it means cheating on someone, obviously isn’t a nice thing to do but it is still common for people to do while in a relationship and this must be because it is an exciting thing to do so makes your life seem more lively, you have the sneaking about part and making sure you cover everything so your boyfriend/ girlfriend don’t find out and for course you get to have more sex with a different person.

masturbation

Defiantly one of the funniest lectures. It did also raise some interesting points as to why masturbation is hardly ever shown in films and on TV. The main reason is that masturbation is a bit more embarrassing than sex and it is also a very private thing so doesn’t show well on films.

Another point was, why do some religions try and ban people from masturbating, I will never understand why it is considered bad to do as it is just and natural thing and is quite fun really.

bad behaviour/ anti-social behaviour

Bad behaviour and particularly anti-social behaviour are constantly talked in the media and how to stop it from happening. What I find particularly annoying with the constant reporting of anti-social behaviour, is how the offenders are always stereotyped as wearing hoodies and just standing around on the street corner looking for trouble. It is always made to seem as if that’s the only reason they are out but most of the time the only reason teenagers are hanging around on the streets is because there is nothing else for them to do so instead of just complaining about the young people out on the streets, more should be done to give them somewhere else to go and something that is easily afford able.

People will always lie and small white lies are fine to do especially when it’s just to save someone’s feeling, like if you lie to a friend when you just really can’t be asked to meet up with them at the moment. The problem with lies comes when they are bigger and can cause harm to people or you lying to someone for the purpose of just causing them to feel bad about themselves.

bad comedians

Bad comedy or bad jokes which give a negative stereotype to people, have always caused controversy but comedians shouldn’t be banned from telling jokes like that because it goes against free speech and most of the jokes people don’t take seriously. For example, jokes about blondes being a bit stupid can be funny but everyone knows that just because someone is blonde doesn’t really mean they are stupid.

bad cinema

It seems strange that people complained so much about the film ‘kids’ because it showed young people having under age sex, taking drugs and behaving violently. The film does have some horrible and shocking scenes but how can people want the film and other films like ‘kids’ banned just for that. Films like this wouldn’t make young people go out and start taking drugs or behaving violently because the film acts more as warning against these things, as it shows just how bad things can happen from taking to much drugs.

Films like this aren’t to disturbing for young people to watch, it is good for young people to see as it shows what not to do. (And it’s also a very good film). There is nothing wrong with showing how this could be real life setting and young people can easily handle seeing films like ‘kids’. These types of films should never be banned because people, who are just far too overprotective of their children, complain about what it shows.

From the lecture, the main problem I can see with body modification is if it is done without peoples consent so when it is done to young children who are too young to have a say in the matter or when it is done as punishment.

For me, the worst example of body modification was how the Chinese sometimes brake young female babies feet to make them smell, this is not only an horrible act to do to someone but it was done when the child was so young that they didn’t really understand what was being done to them so couldn’t decided for themselves if they wanted it to happen.

There isn’t anything wrong with people who want to modify their own bodies if that is what they decided to do (though the catman in the picture above has taken that to the extreme) body modification should always be about a person choice so if they are happy to do it to themselves then society shouldn’t have a problem with it.

Follow this link for some amazingly weird body modification. The first one is by far the best.

smoking

Smoking and particularly the smoking of cigarettes, has been considered a leisure activity for decades even after people found out how bad for your health it is. There are many reasons why people smoke, most people start when they are young as it is an easy way to rebel against parents or they smoke when they are young because their parents smoke so they see it as a way of show how they are growing up.

Another reason that many smokers give is that it relives stress, as a smoker myself I can easily see why people say this but it can never be a reason for why people started to smoke as it only relives stress when you are addicted.

alcohol- binge drinking

The media seems to be constantly talking about how bad alcohol is for people and that is causes anti-social behaviour. This is mostly caused from binge drinking which is when be people drink a lot of alcohol in for fairly smell amount of time (in other words a night out) apparently people getting drunk and enjoying themselves is anti-social and is danger to our country. Now, fair enough, there is a lot of crime caused by drinking and there is more violence on weekends when more people are out drinking but the number for crimes committed isn’t that great and doesn’t warrant the amount of media attention.

It seems to me, that if people want to stop binge drinking, then the way to do it is not through raising the price of alcohol as that he already shown it doesn’t stop it. Instead it seems to encourage it as people that as they have to spend a lot of money anyway they might as well spend that bit more and get drunk. Whereas if other activities were made cheaper like eating out or going to the cinema then people would have more options to do for a night out and would have to result to getting very drunk as the only way to have fun.

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2009/01January/Pages/BingedrinkingBritain.aspx

in the article above it says that the recommended daily amount for adult males to drink is 3-4 units a day which is only one glass of wine and women should only drink 2-3 so according to that women shouldn’t even one glass. This is one of the main problems with people criticising binge drinking because they are probably doing it without knowing.

drugs

One of the biggest issues that government always says when it comes to drugs is how much they harm people. One of the main reasons drugs have kept illegal is that they cause damage to your body however, there are plenty of other things that cause harm but are not illegalised. For example cigarettes and alcohol are legal but they cause the same amount of harm as some drugs.

The argument of how harmful drugs or at least how harmful some drugs are doesn’t seem to work for me because for drugs like ecstasy people are only harmed by people cutting the drugs with other dangerous chemicals but if it was legal and was kept as pure ecstasy then it wouldn’t have been as harmful. David Nutt a former government drug advisor even said that taking ecstasy was no more harmful then riding horses. David Nutt was sacked for suggesting this so it seems that the government are not so focused on the health side of drugs or only are if it turns out that a drug is harmful.
